Meet the Team

Dr. Erin Emmans-Ouellette – DVM

Dr. Erin Emmans-Ouellette grew up in Colorado and New Jersey surrounded by her family's horses, dogs and cats. She began riding horses at the age of three and always aspired to become a veterinarian.

Dr. Erin graduated from the University of Maine and received her Veterinary Medicine Doctorate Degree from Atlantic Veterinary College in Prince Edward Island, Canada, where she studied large and small animal medicine. 

After her graduation from veterinary college in 2004, Dr. Erin moved to Saint Johns County where she has practiced large and small animal medicine. Dr. Erin opened Atlantic Veterinary Hospital in May 2010.

She currently lives in Saint Augustine with her husband Jason, a practicing Orthodontist, in Jacksonville, and their daughter, Riley. They enjoy spending time with their family and friends. It is her passion to help homeless animals and match them with loving, forever homes.
Dr. Herb Loeman – DVM MSc, BSc

Dr. Herb grew up on a small farm in Canada! He graduated from the Atlantic Veterinary College in PEI and worked for 3 years in a mixed animal practice outside Calgary, Alberta. He always talks about how he did a cesarean section on a cow in minus 40 degrees! Dr. Herb loves all types of animals. He has practiced for 10 years and always says that it feels like he has never worked one day. Dr. Herb especially likes orthopedic surgery and has a soft heart for rescue animals. He is currently the veterinarian for the Saint Johns County Pet Center and the Saint Johns County Sheriff Office Canine Unit.

Dr. Herb’s rescue dog “Leo” can always be seen riding with him to farm calls. He also has 2 rescue cats at home named "Spartacus" and "Ratone." Dr. Herb likes to travel to the Caribbean Islands where he can kite surf and lay on a beach in the sun. He thought snow banks and freezing winters were the norm until he arrived in Florida. Now he lives on Vilano Beach in St. Augustine where it never snows!
Dr. John von Kieckebusch – DVM

Dr. John von Kieckebusch is a graduate of Oklahoma State University School of Veterinary medicine. John’s love of horses began at a very young age when his father purchased a pony for him when he was seven years old, and he has been riding and working with horses ever since.

Dr. John’s professional interests include small animal surgery, ophthalmology, equine reproduction and equine lameness.

In his free time, John enjoys riding horses, playing golf, traveling and spending time at the beach with family and friends.
Dr. Lavonne Congdon – DVM

Dr. Lavonne Congdon graduated from the University of Florida Veterinary College’s first class and she also has an undergraduate BS from the University of Florida. She has been board certified in Acupuncture since 1989. Her naturopathic approach to veterinary medicine has gained her a faithful following of clients.

Lavonne lives at Crescent Beach in St. Augustine and has three children and seven grandchildren. She enjoys spending time at the beach and gardening.
Kaitlin Beiser – Technician

Kaitlin Beiser is a certified veterinary technician who joined Atlantic Veterinary Hospital in December 2012. She has been working in the animal healthcare field for 8 years. "I love being able to work with a variety of animal species, and constantly learning things! With the family environment at Atlantic Veterinary Hospital, I get to know pets and clients on a more personal level."

When Kaitlin is not working she is surfing, fishing, kayaking, hiking, riding horses or walking down the beach with her two furry 4-legged children, Judge and Jagermeister.
Patty Runk – Office Manager

Patty Runk has been with Atlantic Veterinary Hospital since its opening in May 2010. She feels it has been a great experience growing with the clinic and getting to meet so many wonderful people and their pets. Patty manages the front desk area and can be found answering the phone and making appointments.

Patty and her husband Don have two daughters, Hallie, who works for Feedin' Time in St. Augustine and Amie who works at Florida State University in Tallahassee.

When she is not working, Patty keeps busy with The First Coast Hunter Jumper Association and The Limelight Theatre in St. Augustine.
